If not properly maintained, there is a possibility that your shoes will break or not last as long as you would have liked. Blundstones are made of leather. Leather is a natural product and this means that leather must be maintained. Choose the right shoe care .

Shoe care: how do I maintain leather shoes from, for example, Blundstone

There are different ways to waterproof the shoes and therefore also different ways to maintain Blundstone boots. Blundstones are water-repellent and not waterproof. Waterproof Blundstones will be included in the Blundstone Benelux collection in 2021. Making shoes waterproof is therefore not applicable for Blundstones, which are water-repellent. However, there are various maintenance products for Blundstone boots.

Because the boots consist of different materials, different methods of maintenance also apply. Making the shoes 100% waterproof is not possible, but making them water-repellent certainly is. We have a beeswax in our range, called shoe polish. The shoe polish ensures that the leather is well nourished and therefore cannot dry out. In addition, the shoe polish ensures that the shoes are water-repellent again. Making shoes waterproof is therefore never applicable. We recommend that you only use the beeswax on the smooth leather Blundstone.

Maintenance of waxed suede and nubuck Blundstone boots

Suede and nubuck are both types of leather. However, they are two different materials and you also want to make shoes waterproof with these types of leather. Waxed suede and nubuck Blundstones also cannot be made waterproof. Brush suede clean with a suede brush. By brushing it clean with a suede brush, the dirt is removed and you can spray the waxed suede material with Blundstone's waterproof spray. Making shoes waterproof with a spray that is water-repellent is not possible in this case either.

There are also the nubuck Blundstone variants. These variants can be rubbed with shoe polish, which will instantly make the shoes water-repellent and nourished. However, the color of the shoes becomes a bit darker. If you want to retain the color of, for example, model 585 or model 587, we advise not to use the shoe polish. Then use the renovating cream. You can use the rustic renovating cream with the nubuck Blundstones. The leather is nourished and the color is retained. In addition to using the renovating cream, you will need to use the waterproof spray. The spray makes the boots water-repellent.

Is there any point in making shoes waterproof?

Many people confuse it, but there is a big difference between waterproofing shoes and making shoes water-repellent. Shoes that are water-repellent never become waterproof. Waterproof shoes use different materials than water-repellent shoes. Water-repellent shoes can be made water-repellent again and waterproof shoes can be made waterproof again.

Which Blundstone categories do we have?

There are different Blundstone categories, classics, originals, dress boots, city dress boots, heritage, active, vegan and the thermal. The thermal collection is a range where the shoes are waterproof and you can make the shoes waterproof. The other categories are water-repellent and you can therefore make these categories water-repellent again.
